19 homes destroyed, 76 damaged after tornado, officials say
CONCORD, NH – Entering the recovery phase, local, state and federal officials are assessing damage from the tornado that hit New Hampshire on Thursday. The tornado hit more than 8400 acres in eleven communities in five counties.
According to emergency management officials’ assessments thus far, 19 homes were destroyed, 35 sustained major damage and 41 homes sustained minor damage. Officials base their assessments on the criteria that a destroyed home would require repairs that are economically unfeasible; a home with major damage is currently uninhabitable and requires extensive repairs; a home with minor damage may be habitable in a short time with repairs.
A public inquiry line has been established in the wake of the tornado. Anyone with questions, damage to report, or requests can call the Public Inquiry hotline at 1-888-330-6764 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Volunteer NH can be reached at 271-2205 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The New Hampshire Insurance Department has a toll-free number, 1-800-852-3416, that connects callers to a consumer services representative who is knowledgeable about storm damage claims, and can assist with insurance questions and concerns.
