2013 Governors Arts Awards
Youth Arts Leadership
Award Recipient: Pedro Pimentel, Concord High School; Concord, NH
A native of Brazil, Pedro Pimentel was already a successful student filmmaker when he began his freshman year at Concord High School. The first film he submitted to the CHS Film Festival won and his work has since received international recognition. During his time as president of the Concord High School Film Club, participation has increased 500 percent and the group hosted its inaugural film festival in 2013. At age 17, Pedro stands out as a leader and inspiration to other students in the art of filmmaking and has a promising future ahead of him in engaging communities through the arts.
Josh Hardy, Advisor for the Concord High Film Society stated in his support letter, “Pedro is an extremely determined and serious director, but he demonstrates trust by delegating important responsibilities to his peers during film shoots. This instills a sense of pride amongst these students and spreads Pedro’s love of filmmaking to them. A leader must inspire and I can’t think of many leaders I’ve met at Concord Community TV (youth or adult) that have made bigger impact.”
