2013 Governors Arts Awards
Individual Arts Patron
Award Recipient: Thomas and Barbara Putnam; Keene, NH
Tom and Barbara Putnam are exceptional and generous arts patrons in every respect, supporting the arts with their time, their wisdom and with funding both from their personal resources and through the Putnam Foundation. Their combined vision, energy and guidance have been a major factor in the success of organizations that include the Currier Museum of Art, Arts Alive!, the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College, the MacDowell Colony, the Saint-Gaudens Memorial, the NH Business Committee for the Arts and the National Business Committee for the Arts. Carrying on a legacy of generosity from Tom’s parents, David and Rosamond Putnam, Tom and Barbara have devoted resources beyond measure and inspired countless others to share their belief in the value that the arts bring to a healthy and thriving community.
2011 Arts Patron awardee Christine Dwyer commented in her letter of support, “The health and vitality of our state’s cultural institutions depend in large part on the significant support of individual patrons like the Putnams. Tom and Babs have regularly provided personal financial support and also directed gifts from funds housed at the NH Charitable Foundation and the Putnam Foundation.”
