Donations to the NHVH Resident Benefit Fund are dedicated to programs and activities that directly benefit our residents.

• Monentary gifts allow us to direct funds to areas where the need is greatest and the donation can have a significant impact. To donate, please make checks payable to "NHVH Resident Benefit Fund".
• Wish List items are specific items that can be purchased to assist us in continuing to provide a wide variety of fun and quality programs for our veterans. Our Wish List is frequently updated and can be downloaded for your review.

Resident Benefit Funds support:

New Hampshire Veterans Home resident

Therapeutic Recreation: This includes residents' birthday celebrations, art projects and supplies, entertainers, trips to sporting events, concerts, plays, museum trips as well as a variety of dining experiences at local restaurants or through home delivery.

Decorating the Home: This is used to purchase decorations that change with the seasons or holidays, and help create a feeling of "home".

Purchase of Equipment: This is used to purchase equipment such as computers, computer programs, wheelchair accessible computer tables, and high definition television sets and other equipment that enhances the quality of life of our residents.

Celebrations and Holidays: This is used to purchase gifts for the residents during the holiday season and for other special holiday celebrations throughout the year. It also helps fund the St. Patrick's Day and Halloween parades and the Valentine's Day Dance.

Intergenerational Programs: This underwrites a wide variety of activities involving young people such as Family Fun Day, Grandparents' Day, and Easter Egg Hunt celebrations, as well as mentoring programs with local school children.

Special Projects: This is reserved for special, larger scale fundraising projects that donors may wish to support. Please contact Kim MacKay, Commandant, at (603) 527-4400 for information about current special projects.

Sunshine Cart: The Sunshine Cart provides a wide selection of personal care items to our residents at no cost. Our Cart is made possible through many generous donations of items from our Sunshine Cart Wish List.

Landscaping: This is used for making additions and renovations to the grounds of the New Hampshire Veterans Home.

Types of Gifts

Memorial/In Honor Gifts: Express your sympathy, honor the memory of a loved one, or express your appreciation to the Veterans Home for the care your loved one has received by making a gift in their name to the NHVH Resident Benefit Fund. You can also honor someone you care about on their birthday, anniversary, or other occasion. Your donation will be acknowledged to you and we will also notify the family or the honoree that you made a contribution in their name. The amount of the gift is not disclosed.

NHVH Wish List/Special Purpose Funds: The New Hampshire Veterans Home maintains a "Wish List" for recreational purchases and special initiatives, like therapy equipment. Donors should write us a note, indicating what they would like us to purchase with their gift, and send it along with their check made payable to the NHVH Resident Benefit Fund. A copy of our Wish List is readily available for your review.

Planned Giving: Remember NHVH in your Will
If you have been a donor to the New Hampshire Veterans Home (NHVH), you know that your contributions have helped improve the Quality of Life of our residents–all of whom are veterans who served our country. They made a promise to us, and they kept their promise. Now it is our turn to give back.

NHVH currently has the capacity to serve 250 veterans. Our residents served in World War II, the Korean War, the War in Vietnam, and the Gulf War. Traumatic Brain Injury and "polytrauma" (multiple injuries) are very prevalent in recent combat and we must be ready to serve the next generation of veterans and meet their unique needs.

The easiest way to continue your support for the work of the New Hampshire Veterans Home is to make a bequest to the NHVH Resident Benefit Fund. Bequests are the transfers of wealth that occur upon a donor's death and include transfers by means of a will or a trust. Bequests can take several forms, such as:

• Specific bequest: a certain amount of cash, securities, or property.
• General bequest: property that is similar to all other items distributed, usually cash.
• Percentage bequest: a stated percentage of the donor's estate.
• Residual bequest: all or a portion of what remains of the estate after specific and general bequests are distributed.
