The NHVH "Above & Beyond" Award was created to recognize employees who are committed to excellence and superior performance. Each quarter NHVH staff members are nominated by co-workers and one is selected by the multi-disciplinary Above and Beyond Award Committee. Nearly 50 NHVH Staff members have received the Above and Beyond Award since it was created in 2007.
Each year NHVH nominates one of our Licensed Nursing Assistants to participate in the statewide "LNA of the Year Award" competition. Qualifications include: ability to relate to residents and attend to their needs as whole human beings; participation in the monthly quality of life meetings; offering constructive suggestions on improving the resident's experience at NHVH; demonstration of leadership; community involvement; ability to organize and support residents when at activities, making attendance at the activities possible and more comfortable for the NHVH residents; listening and responding to residents appropriately; diplomacy, politeness, friendliness, and compassion; commitment to being a real team player, working well with co-workers; ability to interact well with visitors and residents; dedication to residents and ability to deliver nursing care, toileting, feeding, and transferring–all the while encouraging their creative and adventuresome inner spirit. We encourage our LNAs to be role models for their peers and a great example of a staff member who not only enjoys his or her career as a licensed nursing assistant, but highlights the important contribution licensed nursing assistants make in the quality of life of our residents.
Each year NHVH staff members receive Longevity Awards in recognition of their service to the Home. In 2010, eighteen staff members received pins commemorating combined service exceeding 285 years. In 2009, 22 staff members were recognized for serving a total of 330 years.
Commandant Barry Conway, who has served NHVH for 21 years himself, commented "These dedicated individuals are also team members whose commitment is evident every single day. No matter what job title they hold, their devotion to the residents is a major contributing factor to the Quality of Life at the Veterans Home. We are very grateful for all they do and we salute them for their years of service to our residents."
NHVH Staff members have received awards from numerous organizations including Plymouth State University and University of New Hampshire (Student Social Worker of the Year); two staff were recognized as "Field Instructors of the Year" by Plymouth State University, and the Safety/Security Department won the Lindbergh-Bell Award.
